Creating Our AI Future
The explosive growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fundamentally transforming the way we live, learn and work. The emerging ubiquity of innovative AI applications has significant implications to our society and our future generations. Topics in AI, which have conventionally been covered in university-level curricula, are making their way into K-12 classrooms as a global strategic initiative. This talk presents the efforts of the CUHK Jockey Club AI for the Future Project, which aims to build up AI literacy for secondary school students. We will share our experiences in designing, developing and delivering a secondary school AI curriculum, with practical examples from Hong Kong. The modus operandi is a co-creation process involving faculty members in engineering and education at CUHK, and teachers of partnering secondary schools. Our effort in curriculum design and development seeks to enhance students’ understanding of the power, promises and pitfalls of AI technologies. Our method in curriculum delivery incorporates flexibility in implementation to accommodate varying needs from school to school. Our long-term vision is to educate and inspire our young generations to harness the power of AI in ethical uses that can solve problems faced by humanity and make our world a better place.
